Uruguay: Protest planned in Montevideo Aug. 14 to commemorate Student Martyrs Day

Unionized teachers, affiliated with the High School Teachers Association of Montevideo (Asociadion de Docentes de Educacion Secundaria de Montevideo, ADES), plan to hold a march in Montevideo together with student organizations Aug. 14, to commemorate Student Martyrs Day.

Demonstrators intend to gather at the Explanada of the Universidad de la Republica (UDELAR) along Avenida 18 de Julio, starting at 18:00. From there they plan to march to Plaza Primero de Mayo. Additionally, student organizations plan to hold a rally at UDELAR starting at 13:00.

Transport disruptions near UDELAR and along the march route are likely. Heightened security in the area is also likely.
