Warning

Event

Authorities have extended the closure of the Gotthard Tunnel between Bodio and Ertsfeld as of Aug. 14, with no indication of when the tunnel will reopen. The Gotthard Tunnel, which provides passage, has been close to rail traffic since an Aug. 10 train derailment. Authorities initially announced the tunnel would reopen on Aug. 16 but now indicate that the closure will last longer. Train diversions to avoid the impacted area add 60 minutes to national traffic and 120 minutes to international traffic.

Rail traffic that uses the Gotthard Tunnel will experience significant delays until the blockage is cleared and the tunnel is certified as safe for usage, and lingering disruptions may persist after the tunnel is reopened.
