Officials continue to respond to an earlier explosion at the Nafta24 gas station near Federal Highway 119/R215 in Makhachkala, Dagestan, Aug. 15. The blast, which occurred at approximately 21:45 Aug. 14, left at least 35 people dead and 80 injured. The casualty toll could increase further as recovery operations continue. The incident reportedly occurred after a fire in an adjacent auto repair shop spread to the gas station. Firefighters have extinguished the blaze.

As emergency response continues, heightened security and lingering business and transport disruptions are likely through at least Aug. 15.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes away from the affected site. Allow for additional travel time in the area. Heed all official instructions.
