Event

Doctors affiliated with the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) are continuing an indefinite nationwide strike, Aug. 6. The action began July 26 over several grievances, including salary policies and lack of personnel. NARD has also threatened to embark on pickets from 10:00 Aug. 9 to further its demands. Doctors plan to picket daily near the Federal Ministry of Health (Abuja), the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (Abuja), and at federal and state tertiary health institutions nationwide. Dozens of people are likely to participate in the protests.

The action may continue to cause disruptions to healthcare services. Heightened security is likely near picket locations, particularly in major cities. Significant acts of violence are unlikely.

Advice

Confirm all medical appointments as a precaution until the strike concludes. Avoid all protests.
