Italy: Flight suspension at Catania International Airport in Sicily until 13:00 Aug. 14 following fresh eruption at Mount Etna

Flight suspension at Catania International Airport in Sicily, Italy, until 13:00 Aug. 14 due to eruption at Mount Etna. Confirm flights.

Warning

Event

Officials at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) in Sicily announced the closure of its airspace and suspension of all flights until at least 13:00 Aug. 14 following a fresh eruption at the Mount Etna volcano.

Flight delays and cancellations are likely in the coming hours. Lingering disruptions are likely after regular flight operations resume as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs. Authorities could extend the closure with little notice, especially if additional eruptions occur.

Advice

Confirm flights at CTA through at least Aug. 14. Do not check out of accommodation before confirming onward travel.
