A magnitude-5.1 earthquake occurred in Sulawesi at 21:20 Aug. 12. The epicenter was about 160 km (100 miles) east-northeast of Palu. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 35 km (22 miles), and shaking was probably felt throughout West Sulawesi, northern South Sulawesi, northern Southeast Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Gorontalo provinces. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.
