Germany: Activist groups to stage pro-LGBTQ demonstration in central Berlin Aug. 17

Activists plan to demonstrate in central Berlin, primarily in the vicinity of Spreewaldplatz, 18:00-23:00 Aug. 17. The purpose of the rally is to condemn anti-LGBTQ violence. Participants plan to gather at Spreewaldplatz before marching southeast on Wiener Strasse, southwest on Ohlauer Strasse, southeast on Reichenberger Strasse, southwest on Ratiborstrasse, northwest on Paul-Lincke-Ulfer, northeast on Glogauer Strasse, northwest on Reichenberger Strasse, northeast on Manteuffelstrasse, northeast on Skalitzer Strasse, and southeast on Wiener Strasse before returning to Spreewaldplatz.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near Spreewaldplatz and the march route during the demonstration. While the event will likely remain largely peaceful, low-level confrontations cannot be ruled out.
