Emergency crews are responding to an explosion at an oil platform located approximately 80 km (50 miles) northeast off the coast of Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche State, July 7. Reports indicate around 180 workers are being evacuated from the Nohoch Alfa Platform, of the Cantarell Complex, belonging to the state company Mexican Petroleum (Petroleos Mexicanos, PEMEX).

Unconfirmed reports indicate at least five people have been injured due to the explosion and fire, and several boats are working to contain the fire.
