Event

Increased security measures are almost certain during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to Rangpur City Aug. 2. She will hold a public rally at the Rangpur Zilla School ground at 15:00 and inaugurate several development projects. Organizers claim the rally will attract over one million supporters from across Rangpur Division. Opposition parties may hold demonstrations against the incumbent government at or near the event venue, though police will likely prevent or control any unauthorized gatherings quickly.

Traffic restrictions are almost certain at the event venue and along routes used by Prime Minister Hasina. Authorities will operate additional trains within Rangpur Division to serve rally participants; further rerouting or curtailment of public transport serving Rangpur is possible. Commercial disruptions may occur due to the closure of local businesses and/or employees' difficulties to reach workplaces. Violent altercations may occur between rival party factions. Attendees may also clash with opposition party supporters and/or security forces. Police may use force like batons, tear gas, and water cannons to disperse unruly crowds, especially if they aim to disrupt the rally.
