Demonstrations in support of the transitional government are planned nationwide in Burkina Faso 08:00 July 1. Avoid all protests.

Warning

Event

Pro-government activists plan to stage nationwide demonstrations beginning 08:00 July 1 to support the transitional President Ibrahim Traore and the government of Burkina Faso. Rallies are expected in several cities, including Ouudabou and Bobo Dioulasso. It is unclear how many people the demonstrations will draw; however, the largest participation will likely be In Ouagadougou.

Associated rallies are planned for the following locations:

Bobo Dioulasso (Place de la Tiefo Amoro)
Banfora (Place de la Nation)
Koudougou; Gaoua (Place de la Revolution)
Tenkodogo (Place de la Nation)
Manga (Place de la Nation)
Ouahigouya (Place de la Nation)
Koupela; Po; Fada N'gourma (Place de la Nation)
Kaya (Place de la Nation)
Cinkanse; Kampti; Nianyologo (Place de la Nation)

Authorities will likely deploy additional personnel around any protests that materialize as a precaution; localized business and transportation disruptions are possible. Given the pro-government nature of the demonstrations, clashes between police and demonstrators are unlikely, except if protesters are overly disruptive.

Advice

Avoid any protests that materialize. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Keep away from areas where crowds appear to be forming, or security personnel are deploying. If clashes erupt nearby, leave the area immediately; if unable to do so, take refuge in a secure nongovernmental building.
