As of May 11, an ongoing service delivery protest is occurring along the N4 highway near Emalahleni (Witbank), Mpumalanga Province. Residents from the nearby KwaGuqa low-income area have reportedly blockaded the highway causing severe congestion and traffic disruptions. The protest began early May 10, with authorities advising motorists to use alternative routes; protests may continue in the coming days. Protestors are demanding power be restored after spending multiple days without electricity.

Heightened security is likely in the area in the coming days. Road travel disruptions and delays are likely, especially along the N4 and nearby N12. Clashes between protesters and the police are possible if demonstrators ignore police orders to disperse or engage in acts of public violence.
