India: Authorities ban ticket sales for Go First amid carrier's suspension of all operations until at least May 12 /update 2
Authorities in India indefinitely suspend ticket sales for Go First amid ongoing flight cancelations through May 12. Extensions certain.
Event
Indian authorities have ordered air carrier Go First (G8) to indefinitely suspend ticket sales effective May 8 amid operational concerns. The airline has also extended a temporary suspension of flight operations until at least May 12 after filing for voluntary insolvency May 2. The carrier had initially suspended services May 3; additional extensions are certain. Impacted passengers are encouraged to refer to the carrier's website for updates. The airline announced full refunds will be issued to affected passengers using the original form of payment.
Heightened demand for available alternative flights is likely in the coming days, especially if the suspension is prolonged or officials prohibit resumption of services.
Context
More than half of the carrier's Airbus A320 fleet has been grounded for several months amid reports of supply chain issues with the airplane's Pratt & Whitney engines. Earlier this year, India's Civil Aviation Authority, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), announced engaging in talks with the manufacturer to find a solution, which is also impacting IndiGo (6E).
Advice
Confirm Go First flights. Consider booking alternative travel arrangements if necessary. Do not check out of accommodation before confirming onward travel.
