Bosnia and Herzegovina: ReSTART activist group to demonstrate at multiple locations in Sarajevo May 9

Activists to rally at multiple locations in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 12:00 May 9. Increased security, disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

The ReSTART activist group will demonstrate at multiple locations in Sarajevo on May 9 to call for electoral reform. Three separate gatherings will be held in the city, starting at 12:00: at the US Embassy on Robert C. Frasure Street, the EU Delegation building on Skenderija, and the Office of the High Representative on Emerika Bluma. Attendance at each gathering will likely not exceed the low hundreds.

Additional police will deploy to monitor the action. Associated security measures will likely prompt localized disruptions in the surrounding area; access to the US Embassy may also be restricted during the event. The action will likely be peaceful, though isolated clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out, particularly if activists attempt to breach any security cordons.

Advice

Avoid the demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Check for disruptions and allow extra time for travel in the affected areas on the afternoon of May 9. Reconfirm appointments at the US Embassy and EU Delegation.
