Sri Lanka: Rail service disruptions to occur along parts of Coastal Line in Colombo through at least Nov. 21 due to maintenance works

Rail disruptions to occur along Coastal Line in Colombo, Sri Lanka, through at least Nov. 21 for planned maintenance.

Informational

Event

Rail operator Sri Lanka Railways will perform maintenance at a few stations along the Coastal Line in Colombo through at least Nov. 21 due to a damaged bridge. On Nov. 17, authorities reportedly canceled 10 train services along the impacted line. Primary areas affected include Colombo Fort, Kollupitiya, Slave Island, and Wellawatte stations. Delays in maintenance works remain possible.

Increased demand for alternative transport is likely. Traffic congestion is possible as some travelers opt to use personal vehicles, taxis, and ride-hailing services.

Advice

Consider using alternative transport for time-sensitive travel for the duration of the maintenance period. Allow extra time to reach destinations due to increased traffic congestion and demand for alternative transportation.
