Activists likely to demonstrate in Quetta, Pakistan, through at least late November following recent protest activity. Disruptions reported.

Warning

Event

Local residents are likely to stage protests in Quetta, Balochistan Province, through at least late November to denounce utility provider Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and the government's ongoing gas supply disruptions and unannounced load-shedding measures. Protesters recently held a sit-in rally along Airport Road, causing localized transport disruptions on the major thoroughfare as well as on nearby roadways, including Samingali Road and the Western Bypass.

Further related demonstrations are likely in the near term, as activists periodically hold protests of varying sizes and types to denounce supply shortages. Any additional protests will likely involve gatherings at SSGC offices, government buildings, and/or public squares; demonstrators will also likely march along or block roadways, causing further localized transport disruptions. Security personnel usually close sections of affected roadways and divert traffic from demonstration sites. Larger gatherings may draw up to hundreds of participants.

Authorities will likely monitor any demonstrations that materialize and may attempt to disperse especially disruptive gatherings. Clashes between activists and police are possible.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard security precaution. If clashes break out, depart the area immediately. Do not attempt to cross roadblocks, as protesters may react violently. Allow additional travel time near protests. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
