Warning

Event

Activists are likely to stage protests in Karachi, Sindh Province, through at least early December to denounce utility provider K-Electric's (KE) ongoing power supply disruptions. Protesters reportedly held a related demonstration along Rashid Minhas Road near Johar Mor Bridge Nov. 18, causing localized transport disruptions.

Further related demonstrations are likely in the near term; activists regularly hold demonstrations of varying sizes and types to denounce supply shortages. Any additional protests will likely involve gatherings at KE offices, government buildings, and/or public squares. Demonstrators will also likely march along or block roadways, causing further localized transport disruptions. Security personnel usually close sections of affected roadways and divert traffic from demonstration sites. Larger gatherings may draw up to hundreds of participants.

Authorities will likely monitor any demonstrations that materialize and may attempt to disperse especially disruptive gatherings. Clashes between activists and police are possible.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations due to possible clashes. If clashes break out, depart the area immediately. Do not attempt to cross roadblocks, as protesters may react violently. Allow additional travel time near protests. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
