Unionized public workers to protest in front of the Housing Ministry in Rabat, Morocco, from 12:00 Nov. 17.

Informational

Event

The National Union of Housing, Development, Construction, and the Environment plans to stage a sit-in in front of the Housing Ministry in Rabat from 12:00 Nov. 17. The demonstration is part of a strike that unionized housing workers initially launched Nov. 8 to denounce a perceived lack of dialogue with unions, as well as alleged unfair practices such as clientelism and corruption. Unionized workers plan to continue their current labor action through at least Nov. 17; additional protest gatherings are possible for the duration of the work stoppage.

Increased security and transport disruptions are likely near the Housing Ministry amid the sit-in demonstration. While the protest will likely pass off peacefully, minor clashes between protesters and security personnel remain possible. Police will likely disperse the demonstrators if they are overly disruptive.

Advice

Avoid the protest due to the potential for clashes. Heed the advice of security personnel. Allow additional time if traveling through the affected area Nov. 17.
