Germany: Climate activists staging roadblock protest in Berlin Nov. 18

Climate activists stage a roadblock protest in Berlin, Germany, Nov. 18; increased security and transport disruptions ongoing.

Warning

Event

The environmental activist group Letzte Generation is staging a roadblock protest in Berlin Nov. 18. The group is demanding the government take greater action to address climate change. Activists are currently blocking traffic on the A113 Highway, the access to Berlin Brandenberg Airport (BER). Further actions on additional routes in central Berlin are possible through Nov. 18.

Additional police are deployed to the protest site and are likely to clear the protestors within one hour. The actions themselves and related security measures are prompting traffic disruptions in the surrounding areas. Traffic delays are likely on affected routes until activists are dispersed; congestion is likely on surrounding routes. While protesters are unlikely to act violently, security services may resort to forceful methods to disperse protests; additionally, scuffles with frustrated motorists are possible.

Advice

Avoid all protest sites if possible. Check for disruptions before beginning journeys and plan alternative routes if necessary. Heed instructions from security services and do not attempt to pass through roadblocks. If traveling to BER, allow additional time and seek alternative routes if possible.
