Unionized port workers, affiliated with the Force Ouvriere (FO) union, have launched a strike at the Port of Degrad-des-Cannes, located in the Remire-Montjoly commune, south of Cayenne, Nov. 18. Activists are demanding the reinstatement of a port worker, and the review of the process to allocate workers in different positions. They have said the strike will continue indefinitely. The port of Degrad-des-Cannes is the busiest commercial port in French Guiana.

Significant business and maritime transport disruptions are likely, especially if the strike remains in place for several days. Protests in the vicinity are possible, with associated ground transport disruptions.
