Australia: Power outages occurring in parts of southern South Australia as of Nov. 14

Power outage affecting parts of southern South Australia as of Nov. 14. Transport and commercial disruptions possible.

Informational

Event

A power outage is affecting parts of southern South Australia, including customers in the Eyre and Yorke peninsulas, Adelaide Hills, and Riverland Region, as of Nov. 14 following severe weather. Authorities say the outage initially impacted as many as 163,00 customers, but SA Power has since reduced the number of affected customers to 35,000. The utility plans to restore power to most communities by the end of Nov. 15 but warned that lingering disruptions are possible into Nov. 16 in areas where the power grid sustained significant damage.

Commercial and transport disruptions are possible in affected areas. Businesses without backup generators may have to suspend operations. Traffic lights may not function, resulting in traffic disruptions, and public transport that relies on power may be affected. The power outage may also prompt brief municipal water outages, telecommunication disruptions, and electronic water filtration systems interruptions.

Advice

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Ensure that generators are functional if operating in affected areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working, including after power resumes. Follow all security personnel instructions.
