Airstrikes by Saudi coalition forces reported in Sana'a and Al-Hudaydah, Yemen, March 26.

Informational

Event

Airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition forces struck Sana'a and Al-Hudaydah early March 26. Unconfirmed reports from Al-Houthi sources state that seven people were killed in the strikes and that infrastructure sites were damaged. A Saudi spokesperson announced that the strikes were in response to an Al-Houthi projectile attack on Aramco facilities in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, March 25, adding that two weaponized drones were intercepted near Al-Hudaydah during the operation. Officials had previously warned that strikes would target "sources of threats" to Saudi Arabia and urged civilians to stay away from Al-Houthi-controlled oil facilities.

The Al-Houthi rebels may retaliate by launching weaponized drones and missiles against Saudi provinces and cities. Additional Saudi-led coalition airstrikes are also likely in the coming days.

Context

The lack of objective sources covering the conflict between the Saudi-led coalition and Al-Houthi rebels makes it challenging to independently verify reports of combat actions inside Yemen. The Saudi-led coalition has repeatedly come under criticism due to the high number of civilian casualties resulting from airstrikes. International human rights groups have frequently accused the coalition of striking nonmilitary targets.

Advice

Heed the instructions of local security forces. If incoming fire is reported in the general vicinity, stay indoors, away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor or basement. Maintain contact with your country's diplomatic mission.
