Tighter COVID-19 rules continue in parts of Tianjin, China, March 23. Localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Officials in Tianjin are imposing restrictions in parts of the city due to COVID-19 activity. As of March 23, authorities classify at least 15 locations in Hexi, Hebei, Jinnan, Wuqing, Xiqing, and Hebei districts and parts of the Lingang Economic Zone as high or medium risk. Residents of and individuals with recent exposure to these areas must remain in their homes; exceptions may be possible for emergencies and essential reasons. Authorities restrict travel to and from the affected communities. Security personnel will enforce checkpoints in these areas to ensure compliance with movement restrictions. Authorities typically maintain measures until two weeks after the latest confirmed community case. Officials will likely carry out several rounds of testing in these locations before easing restrictions.

Additional measures are likely if there are new COVID-19 cases. Strict controls, such as stay-at-home orders and closure of nonessential businesses, may occur in adjacent locations. Provincial and municipal governments may require testing and/or quarantine for travelers from the affected areas of Tianjin. Individuals arriving in Tianjin must present a negative nucleic acid test taken within 48 hours and have a "green" health code; travelers from locations identified to have COVID-19 activity may be required to undergo home quarantine for 14 days. Increased health screenings are likely at Tianjin Binhai International Airport (TSN). Strict COVID-19 restrictions, particularly in industrial areas and economic zones, could lead to factory closures and business disruptions in the affected areas.

Advice

Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Remain cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers. Confirm appointments and travel reservations due to possible restrictions.
