Lebanon: Activists plan to protest at Riad el-Solh Square in Beirut Oct. 7

Members of the Lebanese Association for Parents of Students in Foreign Universities plan to protest at Riad el-Solh Square in Beirut from 10:00 Oct. 7 to denounce the delayed application of the Student Dollar law, which allows transfers of up to USD 10,000 to students overseas at a lower exchange rate. Protesters claim that many students abroad are experiencing financial difficulties as Lebanese banks have blocked their transfers. Dozens to a hundred individuals could attend the demonstration.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near Riad el-Solh Square the morning of Oct. 7. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.
