Ireland: Housing activists to protest in central Dublin Oct. 8

Activists plan protest march in central Dublin, Ireland, Oct. 8 to denounce poor housing; localized transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Homeowners from County Donegal are planning to protest in central Dublin Oct. 8 to denounce the poor quality of construction in their properties and demand compensation. Participants will gather at 12:00 on Parnell Square and then march to Leinster House.

The event will probably be well attended. Thousands of people attended a similar protest march in June. Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the event. Although the demonstration is likely to pass off without incident, the presence of large numbers of people, as well as associated security measures, will probably prompt some localized traffic and public transport disruptions.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a routine precaution and to mitigate possible disruptions. Allow additional time for travel near the march route on the afternoon of Oct. 8.
