Informational

Event

Anti-government activists took to the streets in the vicinity of the Rock Hotel in Aden's Tawahi District, July 9, to protest the alleged suppression of demonstrations that had occurred in Hadramaut and Shabwa governorate. Protesters in Aden blocked roads with makeshift barriers and burning tires as part of their action. No significant acts of violence were reported; however, additional demonstrations cannot be ruled out. Authorities will probably maintain an increased security presence in the city into at least July 10 as a precaution.

Advice

As a precaution, avoid any demonstrations that may materialize. Seek updated information from trusted local sources on road conditions before traveling in the area, as organizers may not announce protest plans in advance. Leave the area immediately and seek shelter in a secure location away from schools or government buildings if violence erupts nearby.
