US coalition forces targeted by apparent attack in Deir Ez-Zur Governorate, Syria, late July 10 or early July 11. Further violence possible.

Informational

Event

At least one explosion apparently targeted US coalition forces at a military base at the Al-Omar oil field in Deir Ez-Zur Governorate late July 10 or early July 11. The attack was likely carried out using mortars or rockets; the incident represents at least the third attack to directly target military sites at the Al-Omar oil field since June 28. There have been no initial reports of casualties. Iranian-backed militias almost certainly conducted the assault.

Increased security measures are likely at and near the base. Initial reports indicate increased military aircraft activity in the area. Airstrikes, retaliatory actions, and further attacks are possible over the coming days.

Advice

Exercise caution and avoid all military sites in Syria. Heed the instructions of local security forces. If airstrikes, artillery fire, or warning sirens are reported in the general vicinity, report to the nearest bomb shelter until given further instructions by authorities.
