Warning

Event

The opposition Samajwadi Party has announced protests across Uttar Pradesh State July 15. Organizers plan to hold protests at district collectorates and tehsil offices across the state. Participants intend to denounce alleged irregularities committed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the district elections held July 3. Activists will also protest other issues, including violence against women and unemployment. Larger gatherings will likely involve several dozen to a couple hundred people.

Security personnel will likely monitor protests and may try to break up especially disruptive gatherings. Clashes between protesters and police are possible. Protesters may block or march along nearby roadways, causing localized transport disruptions.

Advice

Avoid protests due to possible violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near protests.
