DRC: clashes between militia groups and armed forces result in fatalities near Minembwe, South Kivu Province, July 10-11

Event

Militia groups, including the Makanika, Twigwaneho, and Ngumino coalition attacked several Congolese Armed Forces (FARC) positions in the vicinity of Minembwe, Fizi territory, South Kivu Province, July 10-11. According to a military spokesperson, at least 20 people, including five FARDC soldiers were killed and 14 others wounded in the attack. At least 15 militants were also killed and 35 more wounded.

A heightened security presence is likely in the area in the coming days; further militant attacks are likely.
