Heightened security measures likely after demonstrations materialize in several locations across Cuba July 11; internet outages reported.

Warning

Event

Heightened security measures are likely after anti-government protests materialized across several locations in Cuba July 11. At least hundreds of people demonstrated in Alquizar, Artemisa, Bauta, Guira de Melena, Matanzas, Palma Soriano, San Antonio de los Banos, and along Havana's Malecon, among other locations, to denounce the central government amid dual economic and health crises in the country. Internet outages have reportedly affected some parts of the country amid the protest activity.

Lingering transport and telecommunications disruptions are possible around protest sites over the coming hours. Similar demonstrations are possible over the coming days. Security forces may deploy to related large gatherings; clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out, especially if police attempt to forcibly disperse demonstrators.

Advice

Avoid all protests. Adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Prepare for telecommunications and transport disruptions around protest sites; consider taking alternative routes to circumvent affected areas.
