Ongoing protests by the Jika Joe informal settlement residents have been reported in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal Province, June 28. The protest has resulted in the closure of Masukwana Street between Manor suburb and Brookside Mall. Reports have indicated that protesters have placed burning tires along the periphery and on entry and exit roads of the informal settlement. The reason for the protest remains unconfirmed; however, it is likely related to poor service delivery.
