Pakistan: Officials say CNG stations to remain closed in Sindh Province through at least July 5 /update 2
Officials say CNG stations to remain closed in Sindh Province, Pakistan, through July 5. Shortages likely. Confirm transport reservations.
Event
Authorities have stated that all compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in Sindh Province will remain closed until at least July 5. The closures began June 22 amid nationwide gas shortages. Repairs at gas fields owned by the state-run Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) have reportedly prompted supply disruptions. Industrial natural gas customers will also likely experience limited supplies for the duration of the repairs. Delays in restoring supplies, as well as lingering supply chain disruptions, will probably continue in the coming weeks.
The closures are likely to affect cargo and public transportation services and some taxi operations, especially in larger cities, including Hyderabad and Karachi. Fuel shortage and low-pressure supply may also create commercial disruptions if the closure is prolonged. Previous closures have sparked protests from civilian, political, and trade bodies; popular demonstration venues include public squares, transport hubs, SSGC offices, and the National Press Club in Karachi.
Advice
Confirm deliveries and ground transport reservations in advance. Source for alternative fuel supplies if operations are heavily dependent on CNG. Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution.
