Warning

Event

Officials have announced an extension of Level-2 restrictions in Wellington, including Wairarapa and Kapiti Coast, through at least 23:59 June 29. The measures are in place since June 23 after a traveler to the city tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to Australia. Under Level 2, authorities cap gatherings at 100 people. Individuals must maintain 1-meter (3-feet) physical distancing in most settings and 2-meter (6-feet) distancing in retail locations. Officials also require face coverings on public transport. Travel from Wellington to other areas of New Zealand can still occur, but travelers departing the city must wear face coverings on domestic flights.

Businesses and public venues can continue to operate with protocols in place. Workplaces must follow distancing regulations, and retail outlets must enforce social distancing measures for customers. Officials encourage companies to allow telecommuting, stagger shifts, and refrain from communal activity within workplaces. Restaurants and bars remain open, but patrons must remain seated; officials limit capacity to 100 people per distinct space. Officials could further intensify restrictions in Greater Wellington in the coming days, depending on COVID-19 activity.
