Cape Verde: Authorities extend state of calamity for 15 days from June 28 /update 25

Cape Verde extends the COVID-19-related state of calamity nationwide for 15 days from June 28. Tighter restrictions are possible.

Event

The government has extended a state of calamity in response to an increase in COVID-19 activity through at least July 13. The measure will continue to entail a series of tighter restrictions on the hours that restaurants, bars, and other businesses may operate. Moreover, public and private parties will be prohibited, with only family gatherings being allowed. Stronger enforcement of facemask use, social distancing, and other hygiene regulations will also likely occur.

Aside from the state of calamity declaration, several domestic restrictions remain in place across Cape Verde. Most businesses are open, but limitations on operating hours are in place. Limited operational restrictions on commercial, leisure, and religious premises are in effect on all islands. The use of facemasks is mandatory in public places. Social distancing and other hygiene measures remain in force. Cultural and political gatherings are restricted to no more than 150 people. Persons displaying COVID-19 symptoms are requested to self-quarantine for 14 days. Inter-island flights and maritime transport are operating. Travelers from all islands must present a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before departure. The online health surveillance form must also be completed.

Commercial international air and maritime travel is continuing in Cape Verde. Travelers entering and exiting the country must prove having tested negative for COVID-19 using a test taken no more than 72 hours before travel. Travelers are screened at ports of entry; persons arriving in Cape Verde must also complete an online health surveillance form and an airport security tax form. Travelers who fail to meet the 72-hour threshold will not be allowed to leave the port of entry or disembark until a negative result has been reported.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
