Police announced May 17 that they arrested 11 suspected petrol bomb attackers during a security operation in Kampala. Those arrested had reportedly carried out several petrol bomb attacks against vehicles around the premises of police or governmental buildings in and around the capital. A police representative stated that among the recent targets were Katwe police station, the Uganda Registration Services Bureau, and the former Jinja district commissioner in the Nakulabye area. The latest incident to date took place May 15 at the Kasubi Royal Tombs.

Police authorities said that suspects may be prosecuted on charges of terrorism without providing further details, as security forces are searching for additional suspects.

In the event of future incidents, authorities may deploy additional forces on roads and around possible hotspots resulting in localized transport disruptions such as roadblocks and checkpoints.
