Warning

Event

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are likely in Mogadishu over the coming hours after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near the city's KM4 intersection, around 800 meters (2625 feet) north of the perimeter of Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ), late May 28. Unconfirmed reports indicate the blast targeted a senior police officer, killing one other person and wounding a member of his security detail. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the incident; however, Al-Shabaab presents the greatest threat of militancy in Somalia and regularly conducts attacks in the city.

Additional attacks targeting security forces are possible in Mogadishu over the near term.
