Officials at the US Embassy have not confirmed or commented on the incident. There were no initial reports of casualties or damage. No group has as yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The International Zone has regularly been targeted by Iranian-backed Shi'a militias.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely as authorities investigate and respond to the incident. Additional or similar attacks targeting the International Zone cannot be ruled out.
