Pakistan: STPP calls on protesters to gather in Karachi October 11

Sindh Taraqi Pasand party (STPP) calls on protesters to gather in Karachi on October 11; avoid all demonstrations as a precaution

Warning

Event

A demonstration has been called for by the Sindh Taraqi Pasand party (STPP) to be held outside the Governor House Sindh in Karachi on Sunday, October 11, against the federal government's decision to take over two of the islands in the coastal area of Karachi and formation of the Pakistan Islands Development Authority through a recently passed Presidential Ordinance. The demonstration may attract support from other political parties, religious groups, and civil organizations, and so could be well-attended. The STPP has recently organized protest rallies in Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Larkana, Hyderabad, and other cities in Sindh province.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the vicinity of the rally. Localized disruptions to travel and business services in the area are possible. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Those in Karachi are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all gatherings and demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate associated disruptions, and heed directives issued by local authorities.
