An explosion at a bakery that occurred in Beirut's Tariq al-Jadida area during the evening of Friday, October 9, killed at least four people and left several others wounded. The precise cause of the blast is unclear, however, it is believed to have occurred when a diesel tank within the bakery exploded. Emergency services extinguished the blaze and have helped residents who were trapped in their apartments in the vicinity to escape. Security forces have also been deployed to cordon off the area.

A continued emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the area in the immediate term.
