Algeria: Protesters gather in city centers October 8

Protesters gathered in several cities, including Algiers and Oran, on Thursday, October 8, calling for an end to violence against women following the rape and murder of a teenager. The sit-in demonstrations remained relatively small in size; however, a heavy police presence was reported. In Algiers, approximately 100 protesters gathered in the city center prior to being dispersed by security forces.
