Libya: Ongoing service-delivery protests reported in Tripoli and Zliten September 24 /update 1

Event

Protests have continued in the capital Tripoli and in Zliten (Murqub district) on Thursday evening, September 24, to denounce ongoing power cuts and the deterioration in the standard of living. Reports indicate that protests are taking place on the Shat Road near Mitiga Airport (MJI) in Tripoli and near the Wadi Kaam Checkpoint on the Coastal Road near Zliten. The roads have been blocked with burning tyres. Further protests are possible in other areas including Salahuddin.

Similar protests were reported on Wednesday evening, September 23, and earlier in the day on Thursday. 

Further protests are expected across Libya in the near term. Due to protesters erecting road blocks, transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of any protests. Demonstrations are expected to be closely monitored by security forces and clashes between protesters and law enforcement officials may occur.
