Opposition demonstrators to gather in cities nationwide on September 25; avoid all protests as a precaution

Warning

Event

The Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan (DVK) opposition group has called on supporters to gather in cities across the country on Friday, September 25, demanding the government's resignation and the release of political prisoners. Participants are expected to gather at Zhannur Mall in Nur-Sultan, at Raiymbek Batyr monument in Almaty, at Central Stadium in Aktobe, at Isatay and Makhambet Square in Atyrau, and at Central Park in Shymkent. Further demonstrations in other urban centers should also be anticipated.

Authorities have not authorized the demonstrations and therefore increased police presence should be expected in the vicinity of protests, and heavy-handed police dispersal measures and clashes between security forces and protesters are possible. Associated localized disruptions are also likely in the vicinity of demonstrations.

Advice

Those in Kazakhstan are advised to avoid any protests as a precaution, monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
