Warning

Event

Members of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers' Union (KSPI) plan to stage protests in Tangerang regency on Thursday, September 24. The protests are aimed at a Japanese retail chain following the recent dismissal of four employees. As many as four thousand people are expected to join two rallies outside the food chain's factory in the Bandara Mas area of Tangerang City and the Aeon Mall to the south of the city, which hosts an associated retail outlet. Demonstrators will demand that those being laid off receive proper severance pay.

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions to transport are expected in the vicinity of the rallies. Although the demonstrations are expected to remain peaceful, clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Those in Tangerang regency are advised to monitor developments, avoid demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
