Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for an attack on a military vehicle which occurred on Sunday, September 13, in North Sinai province and resulted in several security personnel wounded and their vehicle being damaged. Reports suggest that the patrol vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) south of Rab'aa village, to the west of Bir al-Abed, causing its detonation. The exact number of casualties is not yet confirmed.

Similar attacks and counter security operations are to be expected in North Sinai over the near term.
