Cameroon: Anti-government protests planned nationwide September 22

Anti-government protests planned nationwide on September 22; avoid protests

Warning

Event

The Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) party and a number of other parties have called for anti-government demonstrations to take place nationwide on Tuesday, September 22. The leader of the MRC, Maurice Kamto, has called for gatherings across the country to demand the resignation of President of Cameroon, Paul Biya. The government has withheld permission for the gatherings and has warned against potential disruptions to public order.

A heightened security presence is expected in the vicinity of protest sites and localized transportation disruptions are possible. Clashes between participants and security forces cannot be ruled out, as previous demonstrations by the opposition groups have been aggressively dispersed by police.

Advice

Those in Cameroon are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests or large gatherings, and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities.
