Anti-corruption protesters to gather in Kisumu, Mombasa, and Nakuru on August 24 and 25; avoid all demonstrations as a precaution

Anti-corruption demonstrations have reportedly been planned in Kisumu and Nakuru on Monday, August 24, and in Mombasa on Tuesday, August 25. Reports indicate that the protests are being held over the alleged theft of funds intended for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) relief measures. Participants in Nakuru are planning to gather at railways at 09:00 (local time), and in Kisumu, the demonstrators will reportedly gather at the Sports Ground at 09:00. Participants in Mombasa will reportedly gather at Treasury Square at 09:00.

The protests have not been authorised and may result in police intervention and possible clashes between security forces and demonstrators. Additional associated demonstrations in urban centers, including Nairobi, are possible. Localized disruptions in the vicinity of rallies should be anticipated.
