On Saturday, August 22, six people were hit by a car during a demonstration in San Bernardo (Metropolitan region), leaving two people hospitalized. The incident occurred in the middle of an unauthorized commemorative march for the death of the Mapuche activist Macarena Valdés. Authorities have not confirmed whether the driver purposely ran over the group of protesters or if he lost control of his vehicle.

Further protests and associated disruptions are possible in the near term. A heightened security presence is also to be expected.
