Warning

Event

On Sunday, June 14, protests in Jaffa over planned construction work at a historic Muslim cemetery continued for a sixth consecutive day. Five protesters were arrested for rock-throwing, lighting fires, and shining a laser at a police helicopter pilot. Vehicles were reportedly torched and a molotov cocktail thrown at a Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipal building. Protests have been centered around Jaffa's Clock Tower but have also spread throughout the city in recent days.

Protests started on Monday, June 8, when bulldozers arrived at the site, which is to become a homeless shelter, and uncovered bones. Further protests and a heightened security presence is to be expected in Jaffa over the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the area are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation disruptions near protest sites, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
