Local media sources indicate that at least five have been killed and 20 others injured in an explosion at an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp north of Baidoa (Bay region) on Sunday, May 24. The explosion reportedly occurred at around 17:00 (local time) as people gathered to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. Video footage allegedly showing the aftermath of the incident indicates that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) or mine explosion. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the area in the near term.
