Reports indicate that 14 civilians were killed in Samboko village on Monday evening (local time), and a further 26 civilians were killed in a separate attack on the village of Tikamaibo on Tuesday morning. It is feared that the death toll could be higher. The ADF are yet to comment on the attacks.

A heightened security presence should be anticipated in the area. Similar attacks are possible in the region over the near term.

Context

The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the region.

Advice
