Colombia and Russia to hold inter-governmental meeting in Caracas on October 4-5; heightened security presence likely

Warning

Event

The governments of Venezuela and Russia are due to hold an inter-governmental meeting in Caracas on Friday, October 4, and on Saturday, October 5. The bilateral meetings comes after President Nicolas Maduro's trip to Moscow in which he sought to reinforce bilateral ties on Wednesday, September 25, as Venezuela continues to face a looming political crisis. Though media reports did not indicate locations, the meetings are to take place at the Miraflores Palace and other government buildings.

Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence is to be expected in the vicinity of the meeting venue. Opposition protests cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Caracas are advised to avoid the area as a precaution and allow for additional time to travel in the city during the meeting.
